Today is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. Or maybe this was yesterday; I’m not quite sure. My mind is still playing catch-up. All I know is that in London, where we are currently staying, the sun is going down close to 10 pm and coming up again around 4.30 am. My daughter wakes up with the sun and the birdsong. We wake up with her.
This week’s song is one I’ve been messing about with for a couple of years. I still can’t quite get a melody to stick to this one, so for now, I present it as an instrumental piece.
My previous bands (My Tiger My Timing and Heavy Heart) both had elements of dream pop in their sounds, and I guess this is somewhere in that same universe. I was listening to a lot of Slowdive, Mazzy Star, and Cocteau Twins back in April when I recorded this one, which probably accounts for the somewhat epic soundscapes.
Anyway, I always feel that there’s something shimmering and expansive about the summer solstice, and hopefully, this instrumental captures some of that energy.
Thanks, as always, for listening.
