Greetings! It’s obviously far too late in the month to wish you guys “Happy New Year” (Larry David’s rule and all that). Anyway, after a little bit of hibernation, I am back at it.
Here’s a quick guitar piece I wrote and recorded in an hour last Tuesday. The third Monday of January is traditionally called ‘Blue Monday’, so due to its proximity to that day, I called this one ‘Blue Tuesday’.
What to say about this piece? It’s another one in DADF#AD tuning (for you tuning spotters). Recorded it on my Epiphone Casino, which I recently put flat wound strings on, giving the guitar a richer, darker tone (and no string squeaks).
I’ve been messing about with some new preamp EQ plugins that I got free from Universal Audio, which give the second guitar its spidery quality. The playing is a little loose at points (this is what happens when you compose and record at the same time), but I’ve left in the rough edges as they give a certain character to the piece.
I duplicated both the guitars and put them through a vast reverb effect free from the good people at Valhalla, which gives the swelling, modulating wall of sound that drones underneath the guitar.
The mixing is pretty rough, but I wanted to get something out this week, as I am falling behind on my project. You will see that I’ve labelled this one as another Local Void piece. I have a few ideas for this project, which I will tell you more about soon.
Anyway, I hope you’ve had a good start to the year. I feel like I’ve aged four years in the last four weeks, but that’s the way of the world these days.
Until next time.
JCV x.
